The conversion of the front yard had put a “bug” in our veins! The backyard wall shrubs were getting out of hand! They were pretty with small purple flowers in spring and late fall. They also covered our pool with tons of purple flowers and small leaves year round! 🙂
In winter they were just ugly twiggy bushes!
I tried to train them into small trees, but their trunk types were not upright and straight! | They began to grow so big (into the pool walk way!) and it got harder each year for me to trim them. Only the new growth was green, behind the thin layer of new growth, there were only a tangled mess of twigs! |
I wanted to remove the ugly bushes! | Popeye did not like the idea at first, but I was determined to do. There were 6 huge bushes to remove. He finally agreed when he saw the condition the bushes were in. We worked several days to cut down and bag them. It took two bulk trash days for the company to pick up! I forgot to take photo of the second day! |
Now there were 6 stumps. I intended to leave them there and plant in between. However, Popeye flexed his muscles and decided to remove them because they were unsightly! They might look small on the top; however, they were planted since the house was built (20 years ago!), so the roots were deep and hard wood! It took Popeye days, but he was determined and did it!
Now we have 6 Texas Privets to plant. These type are evergreen bushes, however, they can be trained into small tree (8-15 feet), which I will do.
We had to go to Star Nursery rock yard to get more rocks to refill missing rocks between trees.
Painting the walls. | Fixing the upper rail. |
The back wall theme is Jungle! 🙂
Yes, I stated the project, but Popeye did so much more work than I. I no longer have the muscles I once had!
